Tabbed Chats
Use a tabbed web browser? why not use the same thing for your conversations? All your chat windows can now be grouped into a better single one. Different positions, different options, this feature is yours to customize.
Colors, Formatting and Commands
Messenger Plus! gives you the possibility to choose any color you want for your messages' text and background. Special formatting such as bold, italic, underlined and stroke-out can also be added. In addition, almost every aspect of Messenger can be controled via text shortcuts called commands, much like the ones used in traditional IRC chat rooms.
Custom Sounds
The Custom Emotion Sounds feature allows users to send their own pre-recorded sounds during a conversation. Sounds are played instantly on both ends and are transferred automatically and transparently when needed.
Millions of sounds are already available in every category imaginable, all you need is a couple of sound packs to start your private collection. New emotion sounds can also easily be created from existing sound files (such as MP3s) or recorded live from a microphone or another audio source.
Quick Texts
Tired of always typing the same thing? Meet quick texts: customizable messages that can be sent with a simple shortcut or typed command. Automatic text replacement can be used for word replacement or filter.
Various additions to manage your contacts and conversations
Personalized Status
Create customized away and busy statuses with special name tags, personal messages and even an auto-responder. Set a timer to reset your status after a certain amount of time and organize your presets for fast repeated access.
Contacts on Desktop
Similar to what ICQ used to offer, you can show the status of any desired contact on your desktop in the form of small floating windows. You can drag and drop messages or links into these to send a message to the contact, or drop a file to start a transfer.
Account Polygamy
Just check a box in the preferences of Messenger Plus! Live and you'll be up and ready for signing-ing into more than one Messenger account at the same time. No need to patch any file or use other Messenger clients anymore!
Messenger Lock
Be it for security/privacy in shared computer environments or for avoiding your boss (which would be wrong... ;-), this feature lets you lock Messenger with a simple keyboard shortcut and hide it in the system tray with an inconspicuous icon. Messenger can then be password protected and messages can automatically be sent to your contacts to inform them of a lock or unlock.
HTML Chat Logging
Messenger Plus! Live can keep logs of all your conversations in a much more flexible way than Messenger can. Actually, Plus! let you do that for years before Microsoft added it as a standard, far from perfect, feature. How Plus! compares to that?...
- HTML Logs: beautiful styling, color, and the flexibility of files you can take anywhere.
- Emoticons and Winks: everything is logged, even custom emoticons are kept and winks shown as thumbnails.
- Log Viewer: shows you all your logs sorted by contact and date within Messenger Plus!. It also searches your archives for old messages in seconds.
- Skinnable logs: if you get tired of the default style of the logs and know about CSS, just drop a custom.css file in your logs folder to change their look!
Event Viewer and Logging
Contact sign-ins, sign-outs, status changes, display name and personal messages changes... everything can be viewed instantly and archived in XML files for future look-up.
The Event Viewer can be used to find if a certain contact signed in earlier, analyze his status changing behaviour, or even his musical taste!
Contact List Clean-up
Easily view statistics about all your contacts (last sign-in, last time you had a conversation, are you still in their list, etc.) and clean your contact list by deleting old and repeated contacts.
Endless extensibility with the Scripting Architecture
Messenger Plus! Live provides its own scripting environment to developers who want to add their own features to Windows Live Messenger. You can get scripts or learn how to develop your own from the scripts section, hundreds of them are already available for free download.
For those of you who are a mere mortal incapable of creating a script: scripts mean new ideas, new features and more fun in Messenger, again and again, brought to you by other developers from the Messenger community.
